terraforming is STILL and always has been a f... mess

i already made topics about this and imo it got worse

how do u dig out a clean wall without edges? When i hit a stonewall with a pickaxe theres ALWAYS 1 section that breaks out in bigger chunks than the rest of the wall and trying to shape it back and dig out again brings the same results

WHY IS THIS STILL ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TEDIOUS MICROMANAGMENT BS FFS

MYGOD this is so annoying and a waste of time

Terraforming is part of the game, in so much as the hoe allows you to raise ground, flatten ground and the pickaxe allows you to dig.

Not using these tools, doesnt solve the problem. Also calling peoples opinions 'whining' is very demeaning.

Minimal terraforming. I have an older system and have few issues with lag because I opt to terraform very little, mainly just moats. Guess that's what I was getting at.

But considering it's an EA game that isn't near finished nor optimized, sorry, but to me that is whining to complain about it at this stage.

Sometimes it feels like though.

By the way, using the pickaxe at shallow angles (like 60 degrees) remove more wall and is a bit more precise. But the orientation will always be a square so unless your building is already aligned with the world natural orientation, you'll get corners everywhere.

If you want a wall that is flat in any direction you'll need to use stones and stone cutters.

I'm fine with terraforming, I just wish we could dig deeper and discover ore veins underground. Also, if the game wouldn't render missing earth or added terrain as doodads, it would run better.

Building a massive castle is fine, but sculpt the land around it to make it fit well and your FPS will chug like a MOFO.

you can make a straight wall with the terrain raise. Just have to click carefully and precisely. Its not easy, and takes practice, but its doable.
- you can't go all the way up and have a perfectly level wall. The wall can only be as high as the lowest ground segment can be raised if you want level.
-if you misclick, it will get crooked and janky in a hurry. lay out wood beams or floor tiles or something and trace along that.
-if you hoe the top to level it, the whole wall will change a little. It quickly becomes a blob instead of a wall.
- you can't easily fix mistakes, you have to cut it all the way out and do over.

at some point its best to just say good enough. There will always be a few imperfections in a large terrain box.

I feel the mechanic itself is just fine. I feel the game/developers never expected you to start digging entire trenches or making everything completely flat. My problem is more with how unbearably laggy it makes the game. Friends and I have resorted to just building everything on poles to avoid terraforming in our new world. Just merely existing in our previous world made the game run like a fat kid lashed to a plow.

Lay down boards an use them to 'edge' your dig.

Maybe because terraforming isn't meant to be precise, and that's why you can just build stuff instead?

Because it's not meant to be that precise and detailed , it's not a minecraft game you are not here to dig

Try digging in a straight line with the ground grid. I don't have any problems at all digging a perfectly straight moat wall.
