^ this, otherwise you're telling the shortcut that [space]-console is part of the executable's file name instead of a launch option.

Need to enter : devcommands after u hit F5, then u can enter which console command u want to use

Where did you enter -console?

You need right click on Valheim in library, go properties, launch options and enter it there.

I couldn't get f5 to work unless I entered -console onto a shortcut. Entering into Steam properties and then opening directly from within Steam didn't work for me unless I use a mod.

Will try :)
1. If I create a shortcut of the Valheim app, and open its properties, I add the -console at the end of "target." Can open the console with F5 when I open from that shortcut, but am unable to open via Steam.
2. Second option was to download the mod Enable Console [www.nexusmods.com]. You need to install BepInEx before installing this mod. Now I can enable the console with F5 from either shortcut or steam link.

Wish I knew what caused it, but at least found a solution.

I was having this issue too. I noticed that on some computers, you can't just click f5, you must click fn then f5. That was all it was for me.
