Cannot fish with Spears???

I am a sharp eye when it comes to throwing spears, I can hit just about any mob without issue using the secondary attack.

Except fish.
What gives? Point-blank hits to their scaly sides does nothing! Do they not die? Or do they share properties of a random rock / tree branch and I have to use E to pick them up in order to get them?

I haven't tried bow fishing so maybe it's just spears that are the issue, idk, someone tell me.

You know, I never thought of it that way and it makes sense.

Well observed. Still made me wonder how hard ot extend the hit zone of the spear out by a couple of scale feet - only when thrown? If you just extended it generally that would maybe give an unfair combat advantage but if only for throws then shouldn't matter at all and would allow for spear fishing.

or simply make a "Fishing spear" that does no real combat damage but has the depth issue allowed for?

That's what I thought the Abyssal Harpoon was for originally!

Short answer is no, long answer is also no. Save up coin, find trader, buy pole.
Get cauldron as without it fish are useless now. No sushi for you.

I think killing fish with spears should only give basic fish meat for those wanting to just eat them rather than trophy hunt. By the time you get a fishing rod you have a better stash of food.
