Wolves, I hate them!
Sure you can snipe them even if they are travelling as a pack -as usual- but just taking my first steps in mountains and looking for my first nugget of silver with the wishbone. How high you have to be to find silver? Have found one egg but no onions nor golems.
This one bastard is really troublesome! Managed to surprise me when I was low on stamina after climbing steep hill and lost my gear. When trying to recover gear by naked run, he was waiting. Activated Eikthyr power and ran to nearby biome where a had teleport, he followed. Took spare gear and teleported back. He was waiting! Before fully loading in, heard bites landing and when finally got control of my character I was stunned and he finished me. In the "you died"-screen saw him tore apart my teleport. There is hope for restoring materials since workbench should be okay, right?
So, crafted iron axe, root armor and upgraded both. Legs, upperbody and mask and took some generic old shield without thinking about it. This was a mistake. Just as I got the marker for my last death in my minimap, there he was! In the thick forest, and he spotted me.
Stood my ground, checked stamina and waited for him to come in.
First bite knocked me back with nice dmg. Understood that could not parry effectively him with the weak shield so decided to try and out DPM him. I lost.
Not going to use Dev commands.
I think I'll do some farming for a day or two and brew more potions, then it's time to do some more naked runs
Does corpse run negate freezing effect?

What about the height, as to find silver?
Trying to remember that did you have to be high enough to find golems also, not only first wolves at the base of the biome and then drakes higher up, where there is a chance to find egg? And where are my onions?!?
Onions are in chest of ruined log cabins.
You need to be high up to find silver. At least to the level where obsidian, spawns. Buy from my understanding eggs spawn at the same level too.

Also first thing to smelt when you get that silver is 4 for a wolf cape. You can wear it to get rid of the cold debuf at night and go to the mountains without freezing. Kill some wolves you need 10 skins I think.

All the silver I found was very high up, at or above the obsidian line. Golems are found near ruined buildings and silver veins so if you find a Golem and don't see a building there should be a silver vein (or 2 or 3) near by and usually the mountain needs to be rather large to have silver veins. Onion seeds are found in chests inside the abandoned buildings. In my first play through it took 6 abandoned buildings (on 3 different mountains) before I found onion seeds.
It takes 4 silver, 6 wolf pelts, AND a wolf trophy (which may be the hardest thing to come by) to craft a wolf fur cape (and a level 2 workbench). You'll still need frost meads to recover your gear if you die in the mountains.
For your specific situation. If you have an iron buckler you can block a wolf effectively. Wolves are fast, you can't out run them but they can't climb so you can get to a high point that they can't reach and use a bow. Wolves also attack fast. You need to block, swing once, and be prepared to block again, repeat until the wolf is dead.
Some times a mob will despawn after 3 game days. You can try that and if the wolf is still there after 3 days then try the long distance run and collect a few following graylings/graydwarves to distract the wolf while you head straight for your corpse.
Or you could get a friend that plays to come give you a rescue.
To solve the low stamina issue, take your pick along and when your stamina bar is at half hit the mountain with your pick to make a flat spot you can rest on.

You will not find silver in snow below level of obsidian. Before you even think of trying to find silver you would be well advised (after getting all your dead bodies and gear back) to do as noted above and make a trail of campfires. One huge help will be to use your hoe to make the trail. It is easy to get lost, especially in storms but the hoe trails are a darker gray color and easier to follow PLUS and most importantly you will not use stam moving up good trails. When you choose to run in a more difficult biome you immediately make yourself more vulnerable to death. You must carry stam potions and decide when you have to use Eikthyr. Long cool down on it, like 18 minutes which is forever. Potions though are a lifesaver when used smartly.
Don't think about silver, think about onion seeds. Get them, go home and start growing them, lots of them. You now should have onions, turnips and carrots. Plus deer meat, draugr guts, blueberries and thistles and piggie meat. If you don't have your foods upgraded you will suffer at every level. Cauldron to level2. Your abilities are directly related to your health and without adequate stam you can't fight or use your abilities. Just use cold potions till you get your cape. Not the end of the world.
TLDR--Become a Valheim prepper. You will be punished severely for not being as well prepared as you can be at all times.
Travel safe.

The Bonemass power seems to help quite a bit against their attacks.

when you reach the mountains for the first time, you definitely want extra frost resistance potions at home so you can use them for corpse runs.

You know what you could try Build a pen near the bottom of the mountain and lure it in then trap it. Use the stake wall and keep a workbench nearby. You can tame them with raw meat. Once you trap it step back so it de agros then wait. But if it is the only wolf near your gear that will keep it preoccupied while you get your stuff.

The times I've been to the mountains I had actually gone to the plains first, I hadn't killed bonemass yet either, ended up finding I couldn't smelt black metal without killing the mountain boss so I set out to do it, didn't bother with frost resistance potions, just got some stone and wood and made a path of campfires and settlements as needed at first to get a foothold in. Honestly I don't remember the rest, but I have a comfy mountain castle now, a nice long path up the mountains that I built up, and a pet wolf who I feed all my neck tails to.
