Is this game worth buying?

I was interested in this game when it peaked popularity about a year ago(?), but forgot about it since. Now I've stumbled upon it again and I'm wondering:
1. For how many hours does the current content tend to last?
2. How about the replayability? Does the game still feel fresh after playing through it once?
3. How often are the developers releasing new content?
4. Is a full release already planned or is the game going to be stuck in EA for a while more?

My son and I just got this game Friday and been playing it all weekend. I normally don't like survival games but this one has been a lot of fun, already got my money worth. The survival part as usual makes the game a bit grindy, the discovery made it even longer. If and when I start over again I will cut my progression time at the very least in half. With the option to use the same character with the gear and knowledge learned from previous play you can really speed up you progression on a new map. Replay ability is high in my opinion with that option.

Valheim vanilla has more content than Minecraft, with more coming soon.

It's weird to think someone would judge it like the new call of duty campaign.

If you want to run from point A to point B exactly as fast as you can.... Valheim was never the game for you.

I suggest Mario speedrunning.

You won't find one place in any verbage from IG anywhere where they said the word promise. Nothing was promised. There is a roadmap. which is simply a listing of things they would like to fit into the game. Also subject to change, or to not happen at all if they wish tbh.
I mean sure, but certainly some of it can be considered a promise even if they didn't necessarily use that word, such as the second half of the game.
Could be an experience thing on their end though. It is obvious to most devs why they should not list off names for content that is neither started or confirmed. They know that it will set expectations, garner free hype, even if they do evade speaking in certain terms.

This line of reasoning puts them in a "Lose / Lose situation.

If they had been silent on the roadmap entirely, people would accuse them of going silent and ignoring the audience.

This team didnt expect Millions of people to buy their game and demand updates at the same level as a massive Triple A game like World Of Warcraft or League of Legends. The studio isn't built to be a "live service."

There is no cheap or easy content designed to draw players back through the microtransaction shop. Real games take real time.

There is a ton of info on the store page and in these forums if you took the time to look it up. It would answer all these questions.

Not trying to be rude, but too many come here asking when you could easily find out yourself with some research and reading.

Judging by the few constructive negative reviews that I've found, the game lacks any significant new content since launch and is grindy as ♥♥♥♥. Hard pass.

1. Contest currently available depends on you. The game isn't dependant on speed. Casually I'd say 100+ hours. Hardcore? Perhaps 40 or so.

2. Also dependant on you as a gamer. Procedurally generated worlds.

3. It's an EA game with a very small indie team, so not often. In a year so far....1 major patch, since new weapons and enemies here and there. Lots of bug fixes ( main delay imo).

4. Probably a year or two more to go.

1. Massively depends on your personal pace. A solo player can certainly do their first run in under 100 hours without assistance, but some might take much longer on things like building or overstocking. Knowing the game well though, much faster, not even a fifth of that time.

2. Not really. If anything will make the game more replayable it is the people that you play with. There isn't really a way to play successive runs radically differently without purposely adding tedium like "don't use X". Cheap, unimaginative, tedious stuff. But you can always see what mods have to offer.
One world is enough to see it all because despite the random generation, the difference between two places using the same biome are largely superficial.
Of course stuff like building is what you make of it. It could add hundreds of hours more for someone who really likes its implementation, but it isn't necessarily going to exceed your imagination any more than other games featuring building mechanics.

3. Yesn't.

4. Planned is not the right word. They know it will happen eventually. Earlier last year they hamfistedly announced a lot of stuff when they had nothing more than their names. A lot of it still may not be started. At the current pace the 1.0 build will certainly not be 2022. Possibly 2023 if they do pick it up like they said they would.

I do however think it is a good price, even for the content that we already have. Less cost than most other games in the genre, but also for less to see and do. It is a promise-powered investment.

The price tag is well worth what is currently in the game if you enjoy the genre imo.

If you find building end exploring enjoyable you can put lots of hours into the game. If you only want to "finish" the game there isn't much of a story, just beat the 5 bosses and hang their heads as a tribute and call it done.

A perhaps more relevant question could be if it is worth picking up now or if one should wait for the new biome (Mistlands). No clear indication of when that will drop other than they are done with the core concept so probarbly sometime during the second half of 2022.

For me personally it was a very enjoyable journey and I managed to rack up close to 700 hours over a few runs/worlds before hitting pause and waiting for Mistlands.

The question of longevity and replay value is very different if you're interested in playing with mods. There are already mod packs that do a fair job of populating the undeveloped regions of the map, adding new monsters and bosses, diablo style loot enchantments and creature abilities, character classes, magic systems. mobile bases, friendly npcs.

And that's just the sensible ones. On team stupid we have tower defense turrets, boat nuts and a fully functional monster truck.

At current price, this would be a grab for me but it all depends on what you enjoy and on the world seed.

You could get a seed where you need to do lots of travelling and exploring for getting to bosses and collecting ores or all the resources/bosses could be near you. I am on my second world and here i have 5 biomes on a single landmass but on my first world i needed to build a basic raft to get to the first boss and hunting for skins was not enjoyable for me.
You could spend literally days building bases, mining, taming animals and farming or you can use the same amount of time just doing the basics.

There is mining and some farming that you need to do but otherwise you generally get enough resources while naturally exploring.

There are some people which have nothing to do after maybe 40 - 60 hours of played time, because they are rushing through the game and then they get bored. Other people need a bit more time... and then there is me. I've played in about ~ 800h only the second boss (of five at the moment) down. I've fun to build, to collect, to explore the world. I'm not interested to get rushed through the game, I love the graphics, the beautiful world. So I start from time to time completly new to explore another world and settle there...
