Happy for Valheim But Confused How This Took So long
Sorry to say, I just don't see how the 8+ months of development only yielded a few building pieces and a few foods and a few weapons? I'm not a programmer, but this seems an abnormally small *major* update. It also just flat wasn't true that this is a "hearth" and "home" based update when in reality it's more like "kind of hearth" and "kind of home" and "kind of combat" as well. It's a mixture of several piecemeal things, instead of the comprehensive building update I thought was promised. It's a shame there's no new stone pieces or shapes, no curves, circles, arches, etc. No angled iron beams. Limited decorations, and the new crafting stations and addons are very very bulky and hard to fit in home-sized spaces. I imagine they're only meant for huge viking halls, because these pots and pants and ovens aren't fitting in grandma's kitchen. Some pleasant surprises like crystal stuff and riding loxes, but again, 8+ months for this stuff? Even with a tiny studio is this normal? Very confusion

No it's not normal. This is minimal content for the time frame. There's several threads saying this and several threads saying the opposite. 2 sides at war.

Game development takes time, especially with a small team.

They made a lot of cash on release, why not hire more people to keep this game going???

I believe they did hire people, but it takes time to find and train the new hires. They made a lot of cash on release, why not hire more people to keep this game going???

And also there's been a HUGE performance gain
Dunno how to quantify that in time though. What I know is that they initially expected to sell like 10% of what they actually sold on EA release and that put their schedule in shambles

The reason you are confused is because you do not work in the industry and have no idea what really goes on in a studio.

There is only one programmer, who also had to deal with bug fixes. They said a few days ago they aren't going to hire more people because they want it to be their own vision and not someone making content for the sake of content and it being redundant to the game-- as if it is impossible to manage them or direct them to what features you want them to work on, even just someone to work on bugfixes?...

Not saying yes or no Either way, BUT from messing with combat I do think that there have been some changes to damage numbers and effects as well. so the game has had a balance pass as well.
Its upto everyone to decide though if thats "enough for them", but our choices are get angry and complain or enjoy the update and play other things if its not our cup of tea. Personally, Iv had a lot of fun with this game. and think I got my moneys worth even without more content.

Several mods made by lone modders add more content than this update. I wonder if the lone modders had more "development time" or hired and trained more people.

yeah congrats I already said that. Although you didn't add anything that suggests you know any more

those are not the only choices. 3rd choice- what you would call "complaining" could instead be normal feedback featuring discontent that pushes developers to make better games.Sorry to say, I just don't see how the 8+ months of development only yielded a few building pieces and a few foods and a few weapons? They made shed loads of cash early doors, they been partying with hookers and coke ever since, maybe venturing in now and then to code the meagre contents this update has provided, Can't blame them really, i'd have done the same, this game ended for me after the last boss, i see no reason to return now.
