fishing? why?

My "little" wolf farm of 50+ two star wolves needs meat... a lot of meat!
I know about pig farms etc and all that and that you can fish for meat etc...
but honestly, running around sniping deers and boars in meadows/BF goes so much faster.

why do you fish really? (yes i know about fish wraps but other than that)

btw, fishing should be a skill just like riding or running etc. Why haven't they inplemented it yet?

Fishing was initially not a must have activity because by the time I could afford it I had better food. I did find that cooked fish made for a good intermediate food for times when I was in camp and didn't need as much HP/stam as I would when out and about. Once I got the hang of it, I had better luck than fishing in the real world. And fishing is a nice change of pace. It was good to see the addition of fish wraps. I have started on a Plains shop build and am looking forward to fishing again.

Wolf food vs. Fish wraps... I will take fish wraps, but in the end, it depends on what you are doing.

Cooked Wolf Meat
Sta - 45
Health - 15

Wolf Jerky
Sta - 33
Health - 33

Wolf Skewer
Sta - 65
Health - 21

Fish Wraps
Sta - 70
Health 23

why I need meat? to breed more wolves until then, maybe 100+? who knows... I have already "finished" the game so got nothing else to do...
my point was why fish when you can get meat faster by killing deers and boars.
of course fishing is good when leveling up...
Because food stats maybe ?
As someone said
Cooked fish : 45 hp 15 stam , same stats thats deer stew but its only meat
Its black forest top tier food and fish wraps plains low tier food ( lox pie and serpent stew are better )

I went out yesterday for fish, one set of stamina food buffs running and fished until those wore off. I got just over 100 units in 20 min using about half that (50) units of bait which costs next to nothing. That will last me weeks IRL time. There is no way hunting boar is that fast, and deer meat is about useless unless you just started.

If you hate fishing but want the food, you can make fish traps. One they are on the shore you can pick them up. Basically you just make a long running lip on the shore so they get in when the waves roll in and get stuck on the way back out.
Where are u fishing my dude ? i have bad luck with them :/ so far caught a tuna and some regular fish. in like an hour of fishing :D

well, practice / skill helps. I was fishing off my dock near my home, which has a lot more fish than most sites.
lets see if I can get you up to speed...
- the most important things are high stamina food (100+ is a big help) and a fish rich area (you can see more than 10 from the shore).
- you want tuna, because 4 per catch, so you want to find or make a site that lets you get to some deeper water.
- you do not need to wait on the 'caught a fish' noise. If the fish is near the lure, it will be hooked if you pull. Its a rather small radius, but practice...
- you can pick them off the line without reeling the whole way in. You can even use the same bait again if you can get it off with enough left to still be in the water. That is usually not practical.
- multiple fish will chase the lure even if you hooked something. You can catch them by picking them up if they get beached, so a sloped shore helps a lot.
- aim at the fish with your casts. If you can put the lure right next to them, you can just catch them without waiting. If not, the closer you get, the sooner it will be hit. Here again, practice.

Honestly a lot of my practice was in other games, it works very like most MMO fishing like wow, lotro, etc. Wife wanted every trophy in LOTRO so we fished, and fished, and fished....

I have 6 or 7 packs of 4-8, 2 star wolves outside my city walls. There's a combination of Black Forest, Meadows and a small Mountains (no drakes, very few wolves & fenrig) biomes. I will run around picking up reagents while the wolves hunt deer, boar & greydwarves, so basically they feed themselves.

The only time my wolves wander from where they were commanded to stay, is mainly newborn wolves. Newborn wolves will move away from the pack 50-70 metres. My full-grown wolves rarely stray far from where I initially placed them, so I placed them where deer & boar spawn. I do not butcher my wolves anymore, as their mortality rate from invasion of fuling & swamp creatures sufficiently supplies meat enough for Wolf Skewers. They do surprisingly well against all other invasions, and tear through trolls so easily I do not even have to leave my HQ.

The only time I fish is when I am taming lox, which I do a lot of, or when I just want to kick back in the game. I enjoy fishing, probably because I enjoy it so much in real life. Can't wait for the game expansion that adds golf to Valheim ...

Since you asked...I don't fish for long. Sitting staring at a bob in the water isn't what I consider interactive video gaming. So I'll usually catch 2 fish, then spawn ten and get on with my game. Life is too short.

Fishing is a bit exploitable using a very short line. Drop the line into the water, hook them, and snatch them directly off the line. Directly looting the fish doesn't exhaust the line, so drop it in the water and repeat. A single bait can catch several fish this way, but it's not like bait is overly difficult to collect either.

One could also ask why in the world you feel like you need 50+ 2-star wolves. They don't NEED meat (you do know they can't starve, right?), you just want to breed them excessively (like, entirely overboard) for some reason. Regardless, for most players, a fishing pole comes LONG before the mountains. It's pretty obvious why you'd fish, it's to get better food. It's like asking why people would bother farming carrots when onions exist. They're available sooner.

This sums it up well. What the heck do you plan to do with 50 wolves??? Even just one is a pain is get any function out of.

Fish wraps are god tier food. That alone is enough of a reason to get it.

As far as I'm aware, you need to fish where you can actually see fish in the water. Once a spot is depleted, you need to move on. They only respawn every couple of days, I think.
