Sorry, didn't intend to say that is the ONLY thing that matters - I know the game has a huge following, but I was expressing why that $20 price tag made sense and still didn't draw some people in enough.
In an open world crafting game as expansive as that - graphics do matter to me. If I wanted something with a different visual style but still survival crafting I'd be playing Don't Starve.
At the end of the day, everyone has their own preferences, and value systems - I personally can't get into Minecraft, but I am head over heels for Satisfactory or No Man's Sky.
Grab me with the graphics, keep me with the gameplay.
You do realize Hello Games and Coffee Stain are five times the size of Iron Gate? If Iron Gate had 25 employees developing this game it would probably have better graphics. It would also cost at least $10 more, if not $20-30, because graphics are expensive. It's also not a question of good or bad, it's a question of style. I love Red Dead Redemption 2's graphics, but I also love Valheim's graphics. The game is damn beautiful once you sit down and play it for a bit. But go ahead and rob yourself of that experience.
"And so Hello Games decided to make something big and weird and ambitious that could still work within its small studio structure. For much of No Man's Sky's development, the team was just six people, expanding to 15 by the time it shipped. Still, it was a tiny team considering the buzz around that game.Sep 2, 2020"

Iron gate has 5 employees, and hello games Kicked off with 6 - not a very drastic difference, they just started off with totally different platforms evidently.
And I **AGREE WITH YOU** if they were utilizing a better graphical engine, they could get more people to buy it at this price price point, or higher. Graphics are the initial marketing point, it's the cover of the book that makes you take it off the shelf and look closer.
