This is behavior that happens in vanilla at open sea, and has forever. It occurs during world saves and is well-known. Don't confuse the OP. You've been around long enough that you should know about this.

I have seen open seas boat taking damage but normally only during storms/high winds and hitting waves. Sometimes a boat might just be buggy, possibly due to where it was built.. who knows.

All I meant by that statement was that the OP was specifically asking about during saves and that, to me, seemed to mean open water while sailing clear.

To that end I just wanted the OP to check things out and define the issue a bit more for clarity. I was not trying to dismiss the issue at all.
