The server I'll be starting Saturday will have strict portal restrictions (admin-built-only, and only after a lot of exploration). It's my hope that the players do exactly that. Build many bases, and (on larger continents) networks of highways for heavy Cart usage. (And using the SpeedyPaths mod to make said roads more useful than vanilla.)

I do love the convenience of portals, but I've never done a run without them. I can't wait to see what it'll be like.
