I personally made new bases at strategic points for mining, farming, etc.

Second time I am going with one main base and then having small outposts all around the map with shelter, a chest or two, portal to the main base, and a bed if needed.

You can also simply make another world, make several chests there, and log from your main world with the ore to move to the new world, dump the ore in those chests, log back to your main world and go to where you want it to use, log to the new world, grab the ore, log back to your main world.
