In my experience updates for Valheim tend to break the more complex mods - my solution is to carefully choose mods for Valheim by reading the respective mod discussion/forum entries on Nexus Mods - i only choose those mods where i think that they have decent support by the mod maker(s) (i know this is absolutely subjective but so far it worked for me). But it is still try and error on each major update for Valheim - for the most part, i had to wait a few days before the more complex mods got updated before i could continue to play. And i also lost a few mods along the way which did not get any further updates after Valheim updates.
I would be careful with mods that enter items/building pieces into the game - if they break after an update you may loose your game (either by being unable to start the game at all or because there are a lot of empty places and holes in your bases which you are either unwilling or unable to fill up with other items/building pieces, or due to simple "frustration".
Pro-Tip: Always make a backup of your world save files (google their directory on your harddrive) and also of the character files (albeit they are not related to the world saves) before modding your game.
