Title. I know this game is good and highly beloved, but no amount of watching reviews and letsplays can answer the question of if I personally will enjoy it. I've not played much in the way of survival games in the past, besides a bit of Minecraft and Satisfactory, and even then I spend way more time watching than playing. I've played a decent amount of Terraria though; its assortment of RPG mechanics, in-depth combat, and multiple classes and specialized gear seems to motivate me.

So, for people who didn't enjoy survival games prior to Valheim, what motivated you to stick with this one? And is there a specific mindset I should have going into the game, either for Valheim in particular or survival games in general?

I really didn't like the whole survival genre's effect on games in general and avoided them like the plague. Two have only kept me interested. This one because atmosphere, the amazing boss fights, the way there is an actual game with good pacing in levels/biomes to progress (it's not just random building, there is a point to everything and you can't just waltz into the new biomes you have to earn it) and general detail on the weapons are something else already too that all work together to make a great game obviously produced with attention to detail and SOVL. With Legends Mod plus the vanilla weapons (which blows skyrim out of the water) you now have excellent ARPG classes rivaling dragon's dogma in depth and complexity on top of the world to build in. In a full co-op game. The other survival game is 7 days to die because it also has RPG mechanics and a serious focus on deadly tower defense vs. zombies and a good horror atmosphere.
