The cart is never worth it imo, it gets stuck on everything, and when you fill it up you can't even pull it up the numerous hills in the game.

Best thing I did for bronze age was sail around the coast mining nodes that were not too far inland, dumping the ore in my boat and sailing it back to my coastal base.
