If you're using mods, you will probably need to make sure you've got the most up to date versions. But otherwise you should be fine. The Irongate team are doing their best to avoid code releases breaking already existing worlds. So far we have only had bug fixes and minor tweaks. As content patches get more significant (the upcoming Hearth & Home update for example), that may change, but for now you should be good.
