Ataxio replied to so apparently i have been missing a boss fight this whole time. January 25, 2023 @ 2:53:17 pm PST
Wow, what a story. Just for my curiosity: did you find silver? And as you „passed“ the swamp did you get iron only out if mistlands?
i found iron in these crypts that the key from the elder opens. i fought the elder quite early on and had a pretty tough time took long to kill his hp bar and thus decided to delay boss fights more. i didnt pass the swamp. i simply didnt fight bonemass. for 2 reasons : couldnt figure out what was needed to summon it and also hated the swamp so i gladly moved into the mountains and each biome after swamp has been a better experience by a mile i gotta say. they really gotta remove the permanenet wet debuff in the swamp. that stamina penalty is just horrible with these hordes of undead. plus leeches. urgh.
i found silver on the mountains. i tought it was only a really small vein which i mined out with a few swings. thanks to an golem accident shortly after i found out the vein was WAY larger underground when the golem broke the ground near the silver i had just mined away.
after that i started digging around the mountain biome (was a pretty small but super tall one near my first bigger base i made in this game) and found 2 more silver veins after a couple hours. made a new awesome bow with that that i used for a longass time till i got a new one in the mistlands. and a sword and a wolf cloak and some armor. apparently silver doesnt have much use for building unlike the "YOU REQUIRE MORE IRON SCRAP" stuff. unless i missed a building option for it somewhere. was only used for i think a workbench upgrade? This boss can be boiled down to "do you have fire resist potion". Its fairly easy if you have the sense to clear out the arena area ahead of time.Yag (plains boss) gives you an item that, while not required, will make the mistlands a lot easier. I highly recommend it.
its a bit of a design flaw, but multiple bosses are totally optional right now.
plains boss: skip if you happen to score enough metal another way to do so.
forest: skipping makes life difficult. It locks you out of tons of iron, literally twice over.
swamp: skipping is harmless, but you will miss out on some loot and a very slightly easier time finding silver.
mountain: can not skip. arguably the best anti skip design.
plains: skipping makes life very difficult.
mistlands: can delay until next biome is ready. Drops nothing of value but boss power is useful to some builds.
you have plains listed twice there. why?
skipping the plains boss makes life very difficult? so i have been playing on hardmode or what? i didnt see much issue in the mistlands till now. the fog is annoying sometimes but if you stand still for a bit it often clears up for a brief moment and you can see the area in front of you. and there is huge fogfree areas aswell. enemies are easy to tell due to the sounds they make. got suprised a few times but running and picking an area to fight them in always worked out so far. only died once in the mistlands when a blimp suprised me and killed my damn boat. and once in the plains when i encountered my first tar pit and was too overconfident. but the plains are like heaven. when i unlocked marble build pieces i decided it was time for a new mainbase this time in the plains biome.
the building process got a bit..... out of control you could say. constantly going to the mistlands biomes nearby to steal more black marble. and kill these damn rabbits for thier meat. havent seen a better hp food so far. i swear these rabbits have the most idiotic AI i ever saw. and apparently a shallow pond is the best method to catch em. it slows em down while you can still run after em and then just bully them with your sword. hitting them with the bow is pain once they notice you.
swamp was way harder than any biome after it.
You've def been playing on hard mode. Why skip bosses at all?? While some are not as good as others, it's all useful stuff. But the plains boss defeat greatly assists you in the mistlands.
