I disagree. For my group, sailing around the world exploring the map is a huge thing we do, and yes, sometimes we pay the price in getting too close to a higher level biome.

That’s part of the challenge of the game, brutal is even part of the game description.

We learn and adapt to what the game throws at us, and even work on making things easier by doing out of the ordinary things.
