I ran into a group like that in an MMO. I fell down a well in a dungeon (which turned out to be a thing a lot of new players did). 8 players showed up out of the blue, and helped me reach my body down at the bottom of the dungeon before all my gear despawned.

The entire rest of the time I spent playing that game, I paid it forward by checking that dungeon almost daily. About 2/3rds of the time, there was a player freaking out because they'd... fallen down the same well I did.
