If I was bronze-armored still, just exploring the swamp for the first time, and scared of how powerful draugr, leeches, and wraiths are, aboms might make me think about quitting the game, feeling that it is too challenging. It's basically a huge-health Lox in the swamp, when a normal player wouldn't be Mountains-geared, let alone Plains-geared.

Also, in my experience described above, they spawn far too often. I aggroed three just stepping foot just inside the swamp.

I accidentally hit one with my black sword with 90 skill (yes I practice a lot, if anything, I fight with my sword 90% of times) without it noticing me yet, and it was 1shot, but I imagine as a new player entering the swamp, this would definetily be an issue and you are lucky lol, I only got 2 in a huge swamp...
