I get that it's called "Mistlands" but imagine if Mountains you were slogging around in the snow moving 20% slower until eventually late Mountains you gain access to snow shoes or some sort of cape / armor thing that made you lighter on your feet so as to walk on the snow.

They only removed the stamina cost multiplier for running on slopes very recently.

It's quite easy to forget how impassable each mid-game biome's obstacles felt like. As humans, we're not built for that. If you eventually find a way to accomplish something difficulty, your brain is, loosely speaking, more or less programmed to that "option" instead of the previous experience of great difficulty.

Swamp you can use the hoe to make easy paths to get around or set up fires in the easy to spot dungeons to remove the wet debuff and easily get back rested.

Imo Mistland mist should be very invasive before you get the wisplight or the torches and then when you have them the mists should open up a lot more.

Mistlands works exactly the same way. Players have far greater capacity for pathfinding even against flying enemies, you can set up campfires immediately outside infested mines instead of inside of them (but the latter is an option too), and you make the new biome less of a hassle by making the feather cape, torches, and other new equipment.
