1st off. mods have created a mega thread "Rant and Vent" for this sorta thing. so that's where this should have gone. Locking patch notes, purging threads, rant/vent thread removed.
To the two people that see this comment before it's lost to some sweaty nerd with the tiniest amount of internet power, why support these devs?
You didn't buy a game that was finished, you invested in an early access project with expectations influenced by the dev's initial goals; but no goals are being met and the only updates to the game are small patches that destroy mod support for a short period of time.
I just don't get it. The devs seem to think they're in a similar place HG was in with NMS, but the fact of the matter is that this game is early access and the most successful early access titles historically have devs actively engaging with their community. It's almost like good early access developers realize that the community they are making a game for might actually have decent input on the status and progression of development. The only time we hear from these devs is either when they purchase a barn animal or when they want to tell us about some weird superfan rp'ing as a viking.
There are plenty of dev teams out there doing things properly (using money earned to hire more staff, communicating with their community, actively adding content, providing rough road maps, working with the modding community instead of against them, supporting and acknowledging negative feedback, bettering themselves or their game in literally any way, etc.), so why make excuses for these guys and support their nearly abandoned project?
2nd. what does EA mean TO YOU? a work in progress or an unfinished game? there's a subtle difference in perspective btwn the 2. in the WIP mindset your focus is on the game in it's current state. if you see it as unfinished, then your focus is on what is not there. it seems from some of your statements your perspective is more toward 'unfinished'. if you can adjust your mindset to enjoy what is there now, it's damn near a perfect game. hell if you can come at it like you're a playtester looking for bugs it's fun to play. instead of worrying about goals the devs initially set for themselves, and had to later reevaluate and change, instead of thinking of it as an investment, think of it like a game you bought to play.
3rd. goals ARE being met. while not on their original optimistic schedule, work is being accomplished. personally i wish the devs would communicate more of this on Steam rather than Discord or Twitter, as i feel this would eliminate much of the complaining that 'nothing is happening' and that the game is 'dead'. but fyi: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Version_History
4th. Mods for an EA game... well this is just generally problematic. I think ultimately if a company chooses to dedicate its resources to developing their game, and not worry about mods (at least for now) we ought to respect that decision as we would for some companies that go all in for mods. i personally prefer to play games 'as is'. the only exception was Civ IV's Fall From Heaven which was imho a masterpiece. either way though, in most cases (supported or not), when an update comes mods break. there are ALWAYS bugs.
5th communication could be better on Steam. but that is an opinion. whether or not IG, or anyone for that matter, is doing something properly is just my opinion. and as such it should be informed by fact. for example IG has hired more staff, content has been added and more is on the way, a lack of support for mods is not the same as actively working against modders.
6th am i making excuses? and is the game abandoned? maybe i am. i do love the game, just as it is, but i'm really excited for mistlands. devs have chosen to work at their own pace. it may not be fast enough for some ppl. to them i say slow down and enjoy what you have. some ppl complain and whine that the game is abandoned. to them i say go look at the facts and rethink your opinions.
