Since there appears few historical styles to reference from... perhaps go full mythic as well as somewhat contemporary... Full mythic would be imho Medusa "snake hair" the option to blend an animal head after killing it of course :-) into a headpiece covering hair...ie Raven. Deer, (Root already included) Skeleton.Rancid why not Troll with a movement penalty to to cumbersome size.. Drake /Dragon variations,, mixed with ores and mythical materials to blacken, goldify or even Serpent heads... and building up to a more powerful smoking headpiece that may or may not have a "blink" style defensive move to bump character a short distance away along line of head/sight with a cool smoke trail to new location :-) ok i just woke up from dream ..rant finishes :-)
