It depends a lot on how much you mod and so on.
The modding environment around VH is pretty stable (as the standard Unity modding tools work just like that) and me and a few friends didn't have any problem with the 10 to 20(!) mods we were/are using in the last >12 month.
Just wait a few weeks after an (major) update, check for mod updates, test and either fix the remaining problems or remove the mods.
Of course that doesn't work so good with huge/big mods that do a lot'a'lot more than just QoL stuff.
