Yeah, pretty much this.

As dumb as it is that the spear is primarily a short-range weapon, the polearm moveset is already covered by the Atgeir which does it quite well.

The spear should still get some tweaks, but I'm not sure what niche it should fill. Polearms are covered well, and even the recent battleaxe changes & addition make it another strong option for longer-range weapons.
