I'm anxiously waiting for Mistlands, but am concerned. The last update with the caves they did not all spawn in, even though we stayed away from all mountain bioms. I have a dedicated and we have a lot of building hours invested; we are dreading having to start over. Is there a way around this without having to start over?
1. Be patient. A dev responded a last week in another thread that major updates take 6-9 months and since icecaves went out not too long ago, you're looking towards the Autumn at best for the next one. Good food takes time.
2. There are various explanations concerning how caves not spawning in is an intentional by product of allowing you to still play a map after an update changes it significantly. Basically, map exposed area on your map(ie unfogged) is not the same as actually "exposed" area of the map. If you wish to be safe/conservative) don't do major exploration of your map because if you visually as a character see, you're risking its considered explored once the update comes in.
So saying you "stayed away" doesnt mean you werent actually far enough away.
Alternatively, you can just do what not a small number of people do and either make another copy of your same map(if you like the terrain) when the mistlands releases so that you ensure there's no issues. Yes you'll have to rebuild and or move things from the old map but at least you can 100% guarantee all the things the update will offer for that specific map.
Alternatively you can also just use the map seed generator website and find another map with a really intriguing amount of mistlands biomes(or a really large few) and save it to be your future explored one. That in itself can be fun/exciting.
That's just what we did in the past, but it sucks since we've built quite a bit, in addition it's a real pain bringing over resources from one server to another. I still have 2 serves and now 4 months later I'm still bringing mats to my new one.
If you're "still bringing mats" to your new one, the amount of mats you must have must be rather large. Ive map hopped in less than an hour 20 full chests of iron as an example.
If you have such a large volume, why not use admin commands to spawn in on the "new" map what you had on the old map and purge the stuff from the old map to save time?
All in all, best thing I can say is be thankful we can do this anyway. Devs at one point considered a much less favorable implementation i believe but felt that wasnt fair.
