I have a huge 50x50 meter interior compound. Its surrounded by an earthen berm, a dry moat, and another earthen berm with a core wood pole as a bridge. Nothing gets inside the compound or can damage interior stone work by throwing rocks. I have 2nd floor hearths on stone floors supported by stone columns for each of the bed rooms and I have a 3rd floor attic with thatch above that and have occasionally had to repair a slight amount of damage to the stone floors the hearths sit on.I've never been able to use a stone floor as a roof either as the stone floor tiles do occasionally need repair.
I have a huge fortified compound with two all-stone gatehouses and six all-stone towers, all using stone floor tiles for roofs. I've never once ever had this problem in over 800 in-game days. The only time the stonework has ever needed to be repaired is when the greydwarfs in the neighboring black forest run out to smack the walls or if they get damaged from raids.
I also have a stone tower in the mountains that I claimed and converted into a taming base for wolves. I had to repair damage to the top row of stones every few game days until I topped the stone tower with thatch. Game is currently over 1,500 days.
