hey, if you want to tame wolf in/near base i suggest best armor and shield (tower is less attention demanding, other shield types needs more attention) and just go all the way backwards blocking attacks from wolf, all time if tower or very carefully do timed blocks if not tower - these wolves bites hard, even 0* ones.
or even better solution - make a taming pit for wolves in/near mountain biome (use separate for each concurent taming , just in case) by making pit or ditch with vertical enough walls and about two normal walls deep , so some type of pickaxe is needed (antler for cheaper deployment of taming site and easy repairs - no metal needed) . if making pit you would want to make partial bridge over it with one end not reaching other side. lure wolf get him to follow onto bridge , then jump thru the gap to other side of pit and destroy bridge with hammer (middle mouse button) from under the wolf.
if you have managed to get abisal harpon then its easier with ditch - get wolf to follow to one side (not end) of ditch , harpoon it and drag it into ditch/pit and release
when wolf is in ditch/pit , throw stack of some cheap meat into pit/ditch and build roof over it, so it won't be disturbed by other creatures or you walking past. put same basic camp without fire (to not anoy wolf) and sleep there
when taming is done <be sure its tamed!> just drop down, interact with it, and dig ramp up (or build ramp/roof/stair if pit is wide enough) and lead it to where you want it
