Are you sure the hunt event is over? If the red circle still appears on your big map, then it is still running. If the event hasn't finished I wouldn't try to go back under equipped. Work at one of your bases until a different event occurs and that will replace it.
If the event is over, I would just take some wood and a bow and make small improvements to help you fight the enemies. If there is no tree or rock to use, one or two sections of stake wall can be used to duck behind and block the attacks of the frost drakes. Learn their attack patterns and shoot them down. You need to learn how to do it eventually and frost glands and trophies are needed for your equipment anyway. You can also shoot them from far away before they spot you. If you miss it might draw them to you, but then you already have something to duck behind and should have no trouble killing them even undergeared.
For wolves you can make a perch in a tree or against a vertical rock face that you need to jump onto. Wolves don't jump. They do rapidly destroy wooden constructions though, so you can't rely on just walls and need to make sure you are higher than their attack range.
For more advanced play, you should learn to use the environmental cues and your awareness indicator to find out if there are nearby enemies. If you hit stealth and the eyeball icon appears, then an enemy is aware of you. If something is aware of you, you should deal with it before moving on. If you are building something (or mining or moving even) keep checking your awareness indicator to find out if something has been attracted by the sound. You don't need to stealth everywhere, but by checking your awareness, you can get advanced warning if an enemy is approaching and return to a safe spot to fight. If the enemy appears to lose track of you, you can let them go (but they will probably be back if you resume what you were doing). If you want to keep attracting them to your prepared position (so you can clear them out of the way) use your pick on something. Fight enemies one at a time and check your awareness and you should be able to walk up and pick up your gear knowing that there is nothing nearby.
