Get an iron mace and a shield, then start your armor, iron sledge is a good weapon, but not a good general purpose weapon like the mace :)

(Sledge basically sets off a big aoe, good for groups, and thing alike leeches, but it's slow, and you can't use a shield, so it's better suited for multiplayer, but I still use it near the endgame for fulings villages ;D)
