Perfectly fine for solo play. You will have to do everything yourself - hunting, gathering, mining, exploring and fighting etc - but it also comes with an advantage that you can do that at your own pace whenever you want. In co-op you'll get distracted by other activities, where you would not be able to focus on exploration or building, and you will have to cater for other's free time schedule. In solo you have a complete freedom of action.
