did you get the feeling that you needed to reach biomes with montains being as high up as possible or anything like that ?

Just has to be night time i think. I found mine on a small mountain on my spawn island. 2 nights in a row i found a 2 star wolf. First time i couldn't trap it before day, second night i got him into my pit.

As long as it is night time and wolves spawn in the area, you should be able to find one. I don't think they can spawn 2 star during the day.
