Well, it's just my guess that i got from inspecting the dev blog's images. Whether or not they did intend to have a lox in that image is unclear, and it's just my assumption that i gathered from the information they provided. I could be dead wrong or not, but they do love getting us to tame animals, so they might do something more regarding that mechanic, like boat transport. But so far nothing's set in stone.

Also i'd doubt they'd make a portal for loxes or tamed animals in general. It is pretty easy to acknowledge that they want to stretch out your playtime, so boat transport might be more of their thing. Could be wrong about that too though.
