Before the update came out, I already explored a whole area of mistlands while nothing was on it so I'd have it mapped out going into it. I was wondering if sailing to some uncharted area of the world and exploring mistlands there would fix the problem, from what you described sounds like it's worth a shot?

Areas that were already discovered (within 500 meters) of anywhere the character has been, will not get updated, meaning that, since you went to mistlands (prior to update) to "map it out" is the exact reason why it is still blank area for you.

Only un-charted areas of the map can receive the updated content.

As mentioned, there are mods which can fix that, but it means your whole map will become "undiscovered" again.
