I was killing the drakes but because they continually spawn for the 2min duration my efforts were futile and i just had to watch hours of work be destroyed.

I had drake attacks on my open base. The wolves are not confined and are everywhere. In that situation, the drakes frequently got close enough to the ground for the wolves to get them. Four wolves died, and many more were injured, but in the end there were 17 freeze-glands, of which I accounted for two.

The wolves seemed to have the best of it under the trees. When I noticed that, I planted a lot more trees. Maybe anything that obstructs clear shooting for the drakes would bring them closer to the ground.
