Agreed, you have the option to wear anything or even nothing, if you prefer. I wear troll in the forest, meadows and even in the swamps if I'm not there to fight hordes. But, the padded armor is superior to any other armor you choose in the game. The same can be said of which ever armor you have most recently gotten and upgraded up to that point. I didn't say that you couldn't wear various armors, just that each one you get renders previous sets obsolete in terms of stats. Also, eating is not a factor, I don't see how eating has anything to do with armor stats. I just wish there were more options for different situations. That's just not true. I have a set of fully upgraded padded armor that sits in a chest collecting dust because I don't like how it looks and it's TOTAL OVERKILL. With baked goods and silver armor you still barely even notice getting hit by regular fulings or deathsquitos. Like literally seconds after getting hit you're back at 100% health just from passive food regen. I wear a silver helm and chest with a linen cape and iron greeves 'cause I think that outfit looks pretty decent. Also played with someone who does the end content in full iron with a lox cape and they're also not having any issues. I've cleared a half dozen fuling camps and they've never killed me. Fashion souls isn't a thing here. Each biome will give you a new armor option that is superior to the previous option. It is advised to get and upgrade new armor asap once it's available. I would love to see more options and even more specific set bonuses or perks in order to keep armor relevant. A set that is good for poison, aka thief set, could remain useful in the swamps, ect. As of now, you end up in the padded armor because it's just better and in it, the swamp, mountains, black forest and meadows becomes trivial.
