There are some videos on YouTube that show how to make a "greydwarf farm" where you can dig out underneath their spawning nest and they fall down into a pit that you fill with fires. That's good for farming their mats. As far as having them spawn less, the only thing I know that you can do is put up workbenches and fires around your base and that will keep them from actually spawning near you.
