I think there are a lot of people who would quit playing if they could not safeguard their homes. Some people spend a lot of time building places and already complain about raids and attacks.

Keep in mind that as you progress and your skills get better the earlier enemies will feel easier to kill. A troll really is a low level mini boss at best. You can't really ramp up difficulty without considering what a new character in a new world as a new player has to deal with. You may be able to kite things easily now but when you first spawn in the game your stamina is very low and the foods at that level are not great. You can manage it but the game shouldn't get harder for experienced leveled players at the expense of the new player experience.
