I believe the name is a play on Fish 'n Bruis (pronounced Fish and Bruise). It's a Newfoundland dish traditionally made from Salt Cod, hard Tack, and salt pork.
It's also similar to Native bannack which is usually cooked wrapped around salmon/trout over a campfire.
