It took them 18 months for this biome which was supposed to take less than 6 months after release, even accounting for delays for the smaller bugfixes it has taken excessively long and they still haven't even done any optimisation.

The estimate the previous comments made of 3-4 years are much more realistic.

They completely redesigned the mistlands because they didn't have a solid plan for it and they wanted to get rid of the spider theme due to arachnophobia complains.
It's not accurate to assume every future update will be as long to produce until given more information about their plans for the rest.
Currently all we know is they had a pretty solid theme for the ashlands from interviews in 2022 and that the plans haven't been thrown on the chopping block, yet.

Ideally the game would be 1.0 in about 2 years. On par with the average game dev time period to produce an indie game that does not suffer from major set backs. It may take less, it may take more. No one will know until much later, and the devs themselves are prohibited from commenting on it because of the Early Access terms.
