They could also tick to show where they are on map.

Craft the new feature cartography table I think its called. It seems to allow uploading the map. It was added with the Hearth and Home.
The cartography table is a new piece of furniture that lets you copy the contents of your map. If you're playing on a Valheim server—or if a friend visits your world, it means you can share map information with each other.

The Cartography Table has two functions, both of which affect the maps that players have. Interacting with the toolbox to the side of the table will allow you to copy your map data onto the table. This stores your map data and allows players to retrieve it.

Interacting with the large map will allow you to retrieve all of the map data currently stored in the Cartography Table. You will be able to tell what data has been retrieved by looking at your map - your friends' exploration data will be added to your map but will appear faded in comparison to your own data. You can toggle this data on and off in the map screen itself.
