According to lore, they resurrect from time to time. But what if Ulf made a pact with a forsaken and now he inherited his powers in exchange for protection? :O
Or maybe a forsaken messed up his mind. You can choose between getting rid of both or save poor old Ulf from the claws of evilness.

There should be a prison in the Deep North containing an Old One that is corrupting creatures' minds...
