Mead and beer back then were a lot safer to drink than water in many places. Not so sure if we would need to worry though since you know, we’re dead.

You do have to worry. For vikings, death is simply a second life where you have infinite lives.
You either spend eternity in hell being tortures and killed over and over or you spend it in heaven fighting hordes of enemies and feasting with friends.

So while you can come back to life infinitely, pain and death are real in the afterlife.
