You can always move over most of your stuff if a restart is needed. Your character's skills and their inventory is kept when loading into a world, so if you start a fresh world, you can just keep hopping back and forth between the old one and the new one, grabbing materials from the old and bringing them to the new. You'll just have to rebuild your home at that point.
