There are meta-game features like a control panel to decide the rules of the current game: death penalty, etc. locking those rules into that game so that once the game is started they cannot be changed. Keeping track of your statistics: how many mobs of each type did you kill, how much loot did you amass, in what amount of time and under what rules.
