I do not find any of the armor sets to be a waste. When i fight the deer (boss) I want to be wearing leather. At that point I don't want to kill trolls yet. And when I enter the swamps I want full bronze. Troll is nice for the sneak bonus , and the mobility, but those things aren't necessary most of the time. I have a full set of troll and a full set of root and they have their purpose. But so does the traditional heavy armor.
