I've needed to mention this already too many times;
Crafting workbenches or such does not work to prevent enemies spawning. This has been tested so often and many times over and over, they do not work.
The best way to prevent enemies from spawning in your "town" is to build enough larger buildings.
Standing torches has absolutely no change to the enemy spawnings so do not count on those.
