My last perma death run ended in a unique way.. just starting in on bronze age, map had very few choices and only one that really stood out. A very thin strip of land between Meadows and Black Forest with Ocean on one side and a very very steep Mountain on the other. Just over the border was a nice big copper node jutting out begging to be plucked.

All was going well, was doing smelting and forging locally, portalling in coal from my main base. I had rather frequent visitors in the form of grey dwarves from one side and greylings from the other, but was more of a break from mining than any real danger. Then I started mining the back portion of the node.

Unbeknownst to me at the time when I started in on the back of the node I activated the chunk at the top of the mountain. First thing I knew of it was when I got dive bombed by two drakes, caught with my pants down, frozen, slowed, and soon dead.

As to why those drakes descended.. that took some figuring out after the fact. It seems there was a battle on high between the drakes and a golem. Somehow the golem got knocked partway down the mountainside and continuing attacks by the drakes just kept skiing him further down.

Even if I wanted to continue that run it would be rather hopeless, as the golem began attacking my smelter ju;st after respawn while I was still going 'WTF??'.

Gotta love this game, it always manages to come up with something new.
