I don't know why, but sometimes you only get a third of the materials used to make a Karve when it is destroyed. You should always get the full amount, but you don't always.

If you only got 26 Bronze Nails, then you also only got ten Fine Wood, six Resin and three Deer Hide. You basically have to damn near rebuild the ship from scratch.
