Just use a bow and strafe, they aren't that hard as long as you don't get hit and frozen/slowed. The first time I got that event on the server I was both still in the bronze age (so well below the tier you normally deal with drakes) and I was at this little cottage I made exclusively to keep my cart safe while I was mining copper, so it had basically no defense and was made of nothing but wood. Crude bow with fire arrows still got 3 out of the 4 drakes that showed up before the event ended and they flew off, despite me also having the misfortune of a random troll deciding that was also a great time to get mad at me for mining nearby (although it was also mildly hilarious to watch the drakes nuke the poor troll).
