I suppose it could be confusing since an "inlet" is often meant as a river outlet into a sea/ocean or just larger river.

But the person who mentioned it stated water flow direction... I suppose the correct way would be to say "the "river inlet" is where the river's outlet is" <or even a passage between islands>. Either way calling it a river inlet would have been correct in the first place.
